The above visible satellite image was taken just a moment ago. As the sun lowers on the horizon across the southern U.S., some pretty amazing things are indeed "visible" this evening.
Note the overshooting tops on severe thunderstorms in Mason and Llano counties in Texas, as indicated by the white circled area.
Further West, the red circles show the origin points of smoke plumes associated with wildfires burning across southwest Texas and southeast New Mexico. You can see the smoke plumes fanning out to the East/Northeast of the origin points.
