Typhoon Roke to Deal Potentially Devastating Blow to Japan...

The above satellite image shows a very strong Typhoon "Roke" moving toward the island of Japan. Maximum sustained winds are currently estimated near 100 mph, with gusts to 125 mph.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is currently forecasting Roke to pound the entire island of Japan beginning later today, with the center forecast to pass to the West of Tokyo by 7am CDT (U.S. time) tomorrow morning:

If the above forecast verifies (and it has been quite consistent for the past few days), Tokyo will see a potentially devastating combination of storm surge, flooding rainfall and strong, damaging winds tonight and early Wednesday (U.S. time).

This has been a particularly active Typhoon season for Japan.  Roke will be the 5th storm to directly impact the Island this year.
