Severe Thunderstorms Likely Western High Plains Today...

Scattered severe thunderstorms are forecast to develop along and immediately ahead of a dryline across the western High Plains today, generally corresponding with the yellow shaded area on the above image.  This threat also extends into the Foothills and Front Range of Colorado, where the atmosphere is forecast to become unstable this afternoon and evening.

Large hail, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes are possible in association with this activity, mainly from mid to late afternoon, into this evening.

Elsewhere, strong thunderstorms are forecast during the heat of the afternoon across the Northern Rockies as well as northern California, near the "See Text" notations on the image.  Some of these storms may produce gusty winds and hail near severe limits.

If you live in the severe weather threat area across the High Plains, please pay attention to the weather this afternoon.  Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or a trusted local media source for later information and possible warnings.  Review your severe weather safety and preparedness tips ahead of time, and be ready to take action if threatening weather approaches your area.
