A Few Strong Storms Possible In Two Areas Today...

Widespread severe thunderstorm activity is not expected today, however there are two pockets where thunderstorms may approach severe levels, particularly with respect to hail.

The first is over the northern Rockies and adjacent Valleys/Plains, where several weak upper level weather disturbances will interact with a modest amount of low-level moisture to produce mainly afternoon and early evening thunderstorm activity.  Some of the stronger storms within this area may produce hail near severe limits.

The second area extends across the Missouri and mid-Mississippi River Valley region.  Warm, moist air just above the surface will lift up and over a shallow layer of cool air, producing lift which will result in shower and thunderstorm activity across this region.  Some of the stronger storms may produce hail near severe limits.

A much more active period of severe weather appears likely toward the end of the week, into this weekend.  I'll have more on that in a later post...
