We Now Return To Our Regular Programming...

I apologize for the lack of posting this past week.  I've had a severe case of the flu and was knocked right out of commission, along with most of the rest of the household.

Though I'm not quite back at 100%, I hope to get a post or two up later today and to get things fully back to normal this week...

I have posts in the works on tornadoes in Florida and the Texas Panhandle from this past week, as well as an update on the expected weather trends for Christmas...

Thanks for hanging in there, and I hope you and yours are all doing well!

Will post a general update here on the main blog page whenever overall trends warrant, probably no more than once per hour.

**Updated 4:05 am:  Live Blogging has ended.  The primary severe threat for the  Austin/San Antonio corridor has shifted to flash flooding.  See the latest post for full details.

Signing Off For a Bit...Will Be Back Before Storms Approach I-35...

Going to grab a quick nap.  I will be back online around 2am as the storms begin to approach the I-35 corridor.  Based on their current location and movement, I would expect the storms to reach the Austin-San Antonio areas after 3am CST.

A Lot Going on Today/This Weekend... Here's How We'll Handle This...

We have significantly higher than normal traffic on the blog right now, with everything that's going on (and forecast to go on) across the Rockies and Plains over the next several days.

To avoid confusion, I'll be referring to the first storm, which is ongoing now and will continue into Sunday, as "Event #1", and the next in line for Monday and Tuesday as "Event #2".  I'll also likely make separate posts dealing with the cold air invasion and the heavy rain threats, which will affect even larger parts of the country over the next few days...

If you're new to the blog, thanks for visiting!  I will try and respond to your e-mails as quickly as possible, but please keep in mind that we have much higher than normal e-mail volume going on right now as well.  I'll try to be as specific as possible within the posts themselves, that way I'll hopefully address any concerns that you have for your area...

Some of the e-mails that I've received have noted their appreciation for the work here and were asking how they can be of greater support.  Currently we have a lot more folks following the blog directly rather than on facebook or twitter.  If you have a facebook or twitter account, I'd appreciate your support by "liking" my facebook page and/or following me on twitter.  I also make short updates and/or comments there that I don't always post to the blog from time to time (especially during a rapidly changing situation), so that's another way for you to get information...

Thanks a bunch, and stay safe!

Problems With Blogger - Again

As I noted earlier this evening, I've been having sporadic problems with Blogger this evening.  Right now the problem is that I can't update the blogging status.  It's stuck on "Elevated Blogging".  I've been trying to change it to "Standard Blogging" for the night, but keep getting a javascript error.  According to the Blogger troubleshooting site, this is a "known problem for some users...." right now and they are working to fix it.

So, please consider this notice that I've gone back to standard blogging mode.  If you live in western Missouri or western Arkansas, please monitor local weather and news media for updates overnight.  As I mentioned in the post right before this one, a potentially dangerous situation will persist well into the night for these areas.  Please be sure that you have a way to receive warnings for your area if issued.

It got kind of crazy this evening.  While there is much damage in central and parts of eastern Oklahoma, I have not heard of widespread/significant casualties.  The loss of even 1 life is too many (and there have been fatalities in the OKC suburbs - last count I saw was 6), so please don't get me wrong.  I'm just grateful that the situation in Oklahoma did not turn out as bad as it could have.  We will hope and pray for similar results in Missouri and Arkansas overnight tonight.

I hope you all have a safe night!

***IMPORTANT BLOG POSTING UPDATE***

I am experiencing problems with Blogger.  Instead of making new individual posts every time I have an update on a particular storm I will simply be updating the existing posts pertaining to the same storm.  I will update with a new thread as the storm moves into another area.  I'll be sure to note when we are changing threads.

Blog Status Change

I am now "live blogging" the dangerous weather situation in the central & southern Plains.  Please check frequently for updated posts by area...
