Update on Major Pacific Northwest Winter Storm

A major snow maker will get underway today and tonight across the Pacific Northwest, and extend into the northern Rockies on Wednesday. The latest watches, warnings and advisories are shown below. Winter Storm Warnings are shown in pink, with Winter Storm Watches in purple:

The Winter Storm Warning area now includes all of greater Seattle.

The two major U.S. computer forecast models, the GFS and the NAM, are both calling for 12-14 inches of snow across much of the greater Seattle area through Wednesday night.  Even heavier amounts of 20 inches plus are forecast in the higher elevations during the same time period.

The latest snowfall forecast from the GFS model is shown below :

...and here is the same from the NAM model:

Seattle is located at the center of each image.  It still appears to me that the heaviest snow for the Seattle area will take place from tonight into much of Wednesday.  Precipitation today will be more of a "showery" nature, meaning on and off, mainly light snowfall.
