A rather large waterspout (which is basically a tornado on water) took place off of Sunset Island near Ocean City Maryland earlier this afternoon. (Photo above was posted on twitter - no credit given).
Some folks at a nearby hotel caught the waterspout on video (see below - it doesn't really "get good" until about 39 seconds into the video):
Waterspouts of this size are rather unusual for this area, but certainly not unheard of (as today's events prove). The storm responsible for producing the waterspout was moving offshore at the time, so there was no threat to land.
