You may recall a post that I made on March 9th, talking about an unusual hailstorm in Hawaii. Not only was it an unusual event, but it turned out to be a record breaking event as well...
The National Weather Service confirmed today that one of the hailstones collected by a resident of Kaneohe on that date was indeed the largest hailstone ever recorded in the state. The irregularly shaped hailstone measured in at 4.25 inches long, 2.25 inches tall and 2 inches wide.
I was somewhat surprised to learn that the previous record was no where near this one - in fact, this wasn't even a contest! The previous record hailstone diameter in Hawaii was a mere 1 inch! There were numerous reports of 2-3 inch diameter hailstones on March 9, 2012, so this was truly a significant, record breaking event indeed!
