Today in Severe Weather History for August 4
A deadly heatwave gripped the south in 1980. In Dallas, the mercury reached 100 degrees or more for a record 42 days straight, ending on August 4th. July 1980 was the hottest month on record in Dallas, with a mean temperature of 92 degrees. To make matters worse, rain only fell 1 day in July and not at all in August!
The summer of 1980 was particularly hot across much of the nation, with over 1200 deaths reported nationwide.
