On this day in 1989, a severe flood spanning over 4 days reached a climax in Southern California. Benton, CA was particularly hard hit, with 6 inches of rain on both this date and the day before, resulting in widespread damage not only to homes and businesses, but also much of the road infrastructure as well.
Mudslides were also widespread across southern and central California, into parts of Nevada and Wyoming. In Yellowstone, WY, 4 inches of rain fell in just 20 minutes, resulting in 15 mudslides in that area alone.
