Images of damage caused by the tornadic supercell that traversed the Raleigh, NC area earlier this afternoon are beginning to come in.
Significant damage has been done in Sanford, which is to the Southwest of Raleigh, as you can see in the images below:

Truly devastating. It's bad enough to be caught at home, but to be traveling on the interstate when a storm rolls over has got to be traumatic.
Thanks for the comment, dogmaah. Since you brought it up, if you are ever caught on an interstate with a tornado approaching DO NOT get under the overpass for shelter (contrary to a popular video from the 1990s) - that is about the worst thing you can do. It's safer to get in a ditch. Definitely get out of your car, don't ever try to outrun a tornado!
