Extreme Fire Danger Again Today

Wildfire danger will again reach critical to extreme levels across much of West Texas, southeast New Mexico, central and western Oklahoma and the southeast two-thirds of Kansas (see image above) today.

The combination of low humidity, dry ground conditions and gusty winds will all spell a potentially dangerous situation should any wildfires get out of control today.

The pink shaded regions on the map below show where a "Red Flag Warning" is in effect today.  The goldish-orange colored areas embeddeed within the Red Flag Warnings show where a High Wind Warning is in effect.  Within those areas, winds may gust as high as 60 mph at times this afternoon.

Widespread blowing dust will also be common across the region this afternoon and early evening.
