Severe Weather Pressing Eastward Across Tennessee Valley...

Strong to severe thunderstorms continue to move and develop toward the East across Kentucky and northwestern Tennessee at this hour. A new tornado watch was just issued for this region, and is valid until 8pm CST this evening:

The activity is likely to undergo a period of intensification and reorganization during the afternoon, with the threat of severe weather, including tornadoes, expected to remain quite high across the red and black hatched areas on the image below, where a strong tornado or two are possible:

Folks living across this region should remain alert this afternoon and evening.  Listen to local media or another trusted source for the latest weather information and possible warnings.  Take a few moments to review severe weather safety and preparedness tips, that way you're ready to take action when threatening weather approaches your area.  This includes identifying the best sheltering option and having a plan in place to get there quickly.

Rob, I have close friends that live right outside of Branson. So far it sounds like no deaths in Branson? Seeing TONS of pictures show up. Here's one of the albums http://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=a.10150599532053922.400997.502008921&type=3

Sad to see there were deaths in other places, though :(

Anthill, thanks for the comment. I'm working on a post (or two) concerning the overnight damage - still trying to sort fact from fiction in many cases. I believe you are correct (from what credible sources I have reviewed so far) in that there are no reported deaths in the Branson area at this time.

Branson is the first post I'm working on (kind of going from West to East with it), so keep an eye out for that this afternoon...

Rob, is this going to hit NE TN? It seems like we're gonna barely miss it. I ask because although I watch the weather, etc....sometimes we in NE TN get lumped in with East TN weather forecasts. The Tor:CON for East TN is a 6, YIKES!!!!

Shamrock,

Right now it looks to me like the line of storms to your West will arrive in your region after 5-6pm your time.

Right now the trend is for the strongest storms to pass North of you, but you'll want to keep an eye to the West at early evening for sure...some of the storms back over middle TN may strengthen as they approach your area.
