The above image was just taken from the Vance Air Force Base radar located near Jet, Oklahoma. As you can see, a broken band of thunderstorms is developing along and ahead of a cold front and dryline from Western parts of southcentral Kansas into western Oklahoma at this hour.
This activity is expected to move and develop to the East/Northeast as the afternoon and early evening hours progress...
Winds are gusting as high as 50-60 mph behind the dryline over far Western Oklahoma, southwest Kansas and the Texas panhandle region this afternoon. This strong push of dry air toward the East, along with lifting from a strong upper level weather disturbance are causing the thunderstorm development (as expected) this afternoon.
Hail to near severe limits and strong, possibly damaging wind gusts are the primary severe weather threats from the activity this afternoon. Folks along the I-35 corridor should watch to the West as this activity progresses during the next few hours...
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is watching this area closely, and if conditions become more definitive, a severe weather watch will likely be issued ahead of this developing line of storms.
